Our Chess for Unity members have contributed to several fundraising activities during the pandemic through doing a live stream commentary. In April 2020, FM Vincent Tsay and IM Jason Wang commentated on the Open Section while FM Arthur Xu, NM Derek Jin, and FM Erick Zhao commentated on the U1400 section at the Boston Elite Charity Online Chess Tournament. The charity tournament raised more than $3200 for the United Way’s COVID-19 Family Support Fund.
In May 2020, GM Andrew Hong and FM Arthur Xu were invited to do a live stream commentary on Twitch for the charity online tournament of Support Our Heroes. The tournament raised about $2526 to support Sino Professionals Association who donated PPE to hospitals and medical organizations nationwide and the NYC Mayor’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund.
